It’s a widely-accepted fact that every professional should have a LinkedIn profile.
This is something we’ve addressed multiple times on Go-Getter. Cindy Hagemann, a certified LinkedIn trainer, provided insight on how to build an all-star profile. Valentina Escobar-Gonzalez, founder of the strategic social media service Beyond Engagement, explained the role of social media in a young professional’s identity.
A new study from ResumeGo – a curriculum vitae and resume writing service – indicates that job-seekers with a comprehensive LinkedIn profile have a 71% higher chance of getting an interview than candidates without a comprehensive LinkedIn profile.
What constitutes a comprehensive LinkedIn profile? In this case, it meant having a LinkedIn page that was fully completed and represented a professional who had taken considerable time to create a profile meant to impress employers:
“Unlike bare-bones LinkedIn profiles, comprehensive LinkedIn profiles had profile summaries of over 1000 characters, 300 connections or more, dense bullet-point or paragraph-based descriptions for every work experience section listed, and a professional headshot.”
Interestingly, the study also found that the importance of having a comprehensive LinkedIn profile is higher for entry-level candidates. The more advanced the job title, the lower the importance of a LinkedIn page.
This means that it’s especially critical for young professionals to take the time to create a complete and impressive LinkedIn profile to wow employers.
